The Annual General Meeting of the Mangapurua Society was held on Saturday the 19th May and our guest speaker was Dan Steele of the Blue Duck Station. This large farm contains the only remaining parts of the original farms settled as part of the Mangapurua Scheme following the First World War. It is an extremely interesting place and has now become a bustling hub of tourist activity during the summer months.
The farm suffered from a very heavy downpour of rain in March and this washed out a large section of the narrow access road as well as the approach to a suspension bridge that provides access to part of their property. Dan detailed the history of the valley in his presentation and showed some photos of the recent damage from the storm.
This is a film of Dan's presentation.
